Seasonal Affective Disorder

Wondering if my ASD child is suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder. Would like to hear feedback form ASD parents who has experienced this with your child. Has anyone used "Light Therapy"? After talking with my sons OT today, we discussed this. My child has sleep issues and it was suggested that maybe his Circadian Rhythm might be off balance. Light therapy was recommended.

Spring has arrived. Showed Caleb the flowers when he got home but he was more interested in getting to snack. I'll reinforce the flowers with a book about them later tonight and let him tear one apart while repeating the parts mentioned in the book.

Call Your Congressperson

I'm going to talk to my Congressperson and try to get the Medicaid Waiver Program law re-written. I have the appointment with her soon. The parents should be able to get the respite money from the Medicaid Waiver Program. We do all the work anyway. It is hard to find people who want to help with older children who are not toilet trained. It would help if everyone contacted their Congressperson and asked them to let parents be their child's resite worker. Can I count on you? Our family is barely making ends meet. Autism is a rich person's disability.

New Beginnings

What a great week we had, last week. I hired 3 new staff, or team Members as we call them, for Noah's in home VB Program. I'm so excited to get them out here and get them trained. One has prior ABA experience, so now we have to get her trained in VB and move her toward that protocol. It's all so exciting. The other two girls have such great enthusiasm and spirit. And their willingness to learn is astounding. It's hard to find that right fit for a program like this. I interviewed about 7 girls and started out just wanting to hire 2.

Autism Proclamation

To any media people out there. We need your help to get the word out about AUTISM!! The Mayor of Park Ridge David Schmidt will be presenting our family with a Proclamation on April 5th, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at the City Council Meeting at Park Ridge City Hall, 505 Butler Place, Park Ridge, IL 60068. We will be recognized for bringing Autism Awareness, information and inspiration to the community through our song, radio show "The Candy Store" on AutismOne Radio and for our activism. We have a beautiful red-headed 9 year old daughter named Candace who has severe autism, non-verbal and in diapers.

Let's see what autism has done for my daughter Candace. Hmm, let's see, she gets to not be able to speak, she has to poop in her diaper at 9 years old, She gets to have no friends or family visit her, She will never get married and have children of her own, No Collage, After I'm gone she get to live in a institution. This man made epidemic needs to stop ruining our kids!! Shout About It!!
